Land dispute erupts in Nadia, 1 dead, 4 injured in bomb and gun attack

A fatal confrontation occurred in Shibpur village, Nadia, on January 29, where a long-standing land dispute escalated into violence, resulting in the death of one individual and the injury of four others. The incident took place in the Radhanagar field under Nakashipara police station jurisdiction. The deceased has been identified as Alam Sheikh, while the four injured victims were initially taken to Chapra Rural Hospital and later transferred to Shaktinagar District Hospital in a critical condition.

The conflict, reportedly stemming from a land dispute that had been ongoing for years, centers around a plot of agricultural land between Alam Sheikh and Ijar Sheikh. Local sources claim that the issue began when Alam Sheikh attempted to forcibly cultivate the land, which Ijar Sheikh’s supporters considered to be their own. The situation turned violent when Ijar Sheikh’s group allegedly attacked Alam’s group with sharp weapons, threw bombs, and fired firearms. This violence led to the fatality of Alam Sheikh and injuries to his associates.

Local authorities, including the Chapra police, were quick to respond and transported the injured victims to the hospital for treatment. The police are conducting an investigation into the sources of the explosives and firearms used during the attack. Although no arrests have been made yet, law enforcement is working to secure the area and prevent any further escalation of violence. The police are also reviewing reports of similar incidents in the region linked to ongoing land disputes.
